It has the alluring enemies with banter and yearning that we all loved in Powerless, but this FMC has powers and she’s on a mission to bring the system down that hunts the people with powers. My sister read this just before I did and we had a lot of fun talking about the twists and our theories.

You get a strong FMC who might burn the world, a full cast of characters, questionable allies, and the feeling of a mystery to solve. Everyone is after something and it’s on Alissa to be the first to find it. She’s morally gray and playing a dangerous game… and I love it!

This has regency romantasy feels with society and balls and a dark system dividing the people. And, then there is the thorn season where the prince will select his future wife. I love a good ball setting, and this one did not disappoint. This competition is only a part of the quest for the FMC but that doesn’t stop the drama from finding her. But… the dangerous quest she’s on is far more dangerous and important.

You get an intriguing love quadrangle with a childhood friend who’s unwillingly on the other side of the battle, the alluring enemies to allies, and the king who has his sights set on her. It’s not angsty at all, but definitely kept me yearning and making theories along the way.
