This is a light and fun read! I enjoyed the mix of a contemporary setting with the dragon shifters invading earth. The story has an intriguing plot with the dragons taking over Houston searching for something they need. This leads to a bit of a war with the US military attacking the dragon base camp. The focus is more on immediate drama in her family and the slow burn budding romance, rather than on how devastating an invasion and attack like this would truly feel, keeping it a light feeling read.
You get a FMC human who is in a MMA training academy when the dragons show up. Her main goal is to protect her younger siblings and try to protect her parents. With the truth slowly comes out between her and the dragons, it definitely held my interest making it a quick read.
The MMC is a dragon leader who can shift into a human form. He accidentally bonds a human which leads to new emotional experiences for him. So you get a transformation from stoic to falling in a way he didn’t know he could.
The dragon bonding comes with fated mates feels between human girl and dragon shifter. And like with dragons you get a possessive protective relationship when he captures her and keeps her. He is stoic towards her, but cares enough to honor her wishes along the way.
This feels like an upper YA paranormal romance. The FMC feels and acts like she’s 17, but I can’t remember if the age was said.
